Life Class Day 17

Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion. It is a daily process whereby you grow to be more & more like Christ.
-Billy Graham

It is a wonderful thing when a child is born! The parents get excited & spend 9 months preparing for the arrival of a new family member.

But what would happen if their baby did not grow? No parents want that for their child!

Our goal is similar as children of God.

The goal of a child's life is maturity - & the goal of a Christian's life is spiritual maturity. Don't let anything - or anyone - stand in the way of your growth in Christ. Never forget: God's will is for us to become more like Christ.
-Billy Graham

*Hebrews 6:1
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God.

Peter encourages us to desire spiritual food just as a baby craves milk.

*1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.

What will happen when you read the Bible:

1. You will be cleansed.

*Psalm 119:9
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

2. You will be sanctified (set apart for God).

*John 17:7
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

3. You will be built up.

*Deuteronomy 12:28
Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.

4. You will have the power to overcome the devil.

*1 John 2:13
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

Reading the Bible is like entering a warehouse full of seeds.

We know that seeds in storage do not bear fruit - they need to be planted in good soil if they are to become fruitful. Our hearts are that good soil.

How can we plant those good seeds in our hearts? By reading & listening to the Word of God.

As you read the Bible, certain verses will stand out & catch your attention. It is as if light goes on & you realize that those verses are a specific word from God for your life.

Any of God's children can have that same realization, & that is when the Word takes on power & fulfills the full promise for which God has sent it.

*2 Peter 1:4
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

When a promise is made real in our lives, we experience the incredible power of God & we become partakers in His divine nature.

Contact with the Word of God not only brings us closer to Him, it also distances us from the corruption of the world.

1. When Jeremiah fed on God's Word, what did it become to him?

*Jeremiah 15:16
When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.

2. How important were God's words to Job?

*Job 23:12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

3. How can a young person lead a clean life?

*Psalm 119:9
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

What 2 results does God's Word produce in young people when it lives with them?

*1 John 2:14
I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

REMEMBER:
THE WORD OF GOD TRANSFORMS ME SO THAT THE NATURE OF GOD CAN BE FORMED IN ME & I CAN BECOME MORE LIKE JESUS.
